How Can I Write a Title for a Post When Words Cannot Do Justice to These Moments?

The blog has a new character!

!!!

Grandson 1 has arrived.

Grandson 1’s parents (Son 1 and Dear Daughter-in-Law) do not want photos posted of him. I get it.

I specifically recall the origin of this insistence. Son 1 was a teen. I showed him that when one wrote stuff online, people for years to come could find it. For example, if one wrote, “The pixies are sons of bitches,” that declaration will live on long after one was no longer a sevvie (seventh grader) or an eightball (eighth grader). Pixies, of course, are middle school sixth graders.

Even as I noted his poor judgment, I also quietly noted (with pride) the correct plural form of the compound noun.

I got to meet Grandson 1 this week.
I am in love.

You can’t see a picture, but you can paint a picture in your mind of his cute little face, the softest fluffy fuzz ever on his head, and his little swaddled body.

I also got to ride in a Waymo, the driverless ride service in San Francisco.

I saw the future.

Laura, this is so exciting! The soft fluffy fuzz says it all. SOO happy for you and the family! …

Funny re proper verbiage with the insult. I had to reread to confirm and share in the pride.

Waymo! Saymo! (saymore!) Lemme know how you liked it? Odd?

I loved Waymo. We just took it on the city streets, and it was not scary or even odd. I am not a confident driver, so I love it when someone else drives, or now, when NO ONE drives.

The one odd thing relates to a recurring anxiety dream that I have had for as long as I can remember. In the dream, I wake up from a sleep in the back seat of a moving car. I look at the front seat, and no one is driving even though the car is moving. I reach my arms over to grab the wheel, but am concerned that I cannot reach the gas and brake pedals from the back seat. This dream seems to have a transparent meaning, about lack of control.

I haven’t had the dream recently, but it has a new context now. It can be perfectly OK to wake up in the back seat from a nap and find no one at the wheel.

Congratulations Laura, to you and Son 1 and his wife, the new parents! You gave us a great visual description of the tiny baby and one thing I love so much are the little baby noises that they make! And all the gadgets and gizmos that they’ve invented for newborns and babies these days. But cound you share with us, what is this beautiful grandchild going to call you and your husband!? And what about your mom?!
I’m so happy for you and your family and I dream of this moment for myself one day.

P.S. Thank you for sharing about your ride with Waymo. And much written about the investment implications around driverless cars, trucks, etc…
